* Independence Day July 4th *

On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and Democracy was born. Every day thousands leave their homeland to come to the "land of the free and the home of the brave" so they can begin their American Dream.

The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings. Through the Internet we are learning about and communicating with people of different nations, with different languages and different races throughout the world. Bringing the world closer with understanding and knowledge can only benefit all nations.

Happy Birthday, America!

Increase Your Impact! Fundraising for Playground!

One of the most effective ways to make a donation is through your firm or company. Many companies, both big and small,( like DELL, IBM,HEB ...) may double (or sometimes triple) the value of donations made to non-profit organizatons(like public or charter schools) by their employees, employees' spouses, or even retirees. There's no additional cost to you and these matching gifts provide much needed funds, as we work to prapare a safier playground to our students!

Matching your gift is easy. First, just donate to Harmony as you normally would. Then, to find out if your company will match your donation to Harmony, ask your human resources department.

Donations to charter schools are tax deductible expenses. These donations can reduce your taxable income and lower your tax bill. You will need to itemize your tax deductions in order to claim any charity.

Most companies ask you to complete and return a short form or may require the Harmony's tax identification number. Just give us a call to get our school's TIN number.

We hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity and have your gift go twice as far!

Summer Fundraising for Playground

Dear Parents/ Guardians,
As you know HSS_Austin believes that parental involvement in a child's education is one of the most important factors in raising student self-esteem and academic achievement and we all agree that parental involvement should go beyond attendance at teacher conferences and open house. School is over but we keep working to provide more successful school year for the next year.

We have 3 projects to do before school starts.

Project 1: One of the project that we are working on is to install shade canopy which blocks up to 96% of cancer-causing UV rays and protect children and adults from the
harmful rays of the sun while providing shade and keeping the area cooler in 4-8 grade playground. It will provide more proper and safe learning environment for our students. The American Cancer Society reports over 1 million new cases of skin cancer each year. Children are particularly at risk, both because of their sensitive skin and because they spend more of their time outdoors. We need to raise some portion of the funds to start construction. But unfortunately, we are still in need of $13,000.

Project 2: Second project is about K-3 grade students playground. As you may know we have 4000 sq ft playground for only K-3 grade students. Only 500sq ft of this is covered with rubber mulch and rest of the playground is concrete. We would like to install artificial turf on this concrete area so there will be no concrete part of K-3 grade playground. We need $8500 for this projects.

Project 3: Third project is about tree area. There is a tree area with a small patio next to K-3 grade playground. We have put grass on ground last year but it has been damaged because of the foot traffic by students and erosion after rain. Now roots of trees can be seen and sometimes our students tripped by them and fall down. It might cause a big problem such as broken arm, injured knees… To prevent such incidents we would like to put wood mulch over there. We had a bid from a landscape company and it will cost us around $3000.

So total we need $24500 to be able to do these 3 projects. Half of this cost will be provided by Cosmos foundation. We need to raise the rest of the money which is $12,250. We figured that if everyone donates around $50 - $100 dollars, we will be able to reach our goal.

If you want to contribute to these projects, please donate some money, come by the campus, or mail in your donation, or make a credit card payment over the phone. We really appreciate anything that you can do to help. We know that with your help we can definitely reach our goals and make our backyard a safe place for our students.

Following options are to make Donation:

1. Credit Card ( You can do it on the phone )
2. Check (payable to HSS - Austin)
3. Money Order (payable to HSS - Austin)
